Broken Wheel Farm's breeding goals seek to breed healthy horses that are easy to maintain, and with exceptional temperaments and gaits. We want to offer only high-quality horses, and to increase the awareness of the special qualities unique to the Icelandic Horse. They have excellent personalities and easy to train. There are so few of these beautiful animals, much less for the average rider to work with, train, and enjoy.
With our breeding program, we plan to breed only our best mares. The foals receive the attention needed to be well-rounded working individuals. Our foals are handled regularly, producing horses which are willing to please and easy to handle. All of our horses are imprinted at birth. They are taught to stand for grooming, farrier work and baths. They are expected to lead without a fuss and load into a horse trailer easily. Produceing a trusting horse with confidence is our goal.
Foals that remain at Broken Wheel Farms continue with their training as they mature. At about four or five, the horses are trained under saddle and used in our riding program. During this time we take special care to introduce the horse to all it may encounter in its new environment. We believe that this type of upbringing leads to horses which are a pleasure to own, well-educated, friendly and people-oriented.
The Icelandic Horse offers a relaxing, enjoyable experience. You will find that the horse's intelligence, friendly disposition, compact size, liveliness, and over all health make it a pure pleasure to ride and to own.
Visit us and take advantage of our experience with the Icelandic Horse. Our horses are raised and cared for with kindness, understanding, and love. Our goal is a well-educated, self-confident, enthusiastic, easy-gaited pleasure horse.
